On the Verge…
Welcome to our first newsletter! Despite it being the inaugural edition, I aspire to overcome resistance and keep this going. It's the eternal battle—Resistance vs. Growth. Our aim? To inspire you to defy stagnancy, to embrace growth daily, making self-improvement a priority.
Defining Health Optimization
This newsletter will define a new area of human wellness where we are the customers and custodians of our own health. I am going to call this space ‘health optimization’. The current healthcare landscape is dominated by pharmaceutical giants, with a stark line between "healthy" and "sick". However, there's a vast gray area—a continuum of health that often goes unnoticed. This is where "health optimization" comes in.
- Owned by individuals rather than systems.
- Citizen scientists spearheading exciting research.
- Topics that may challenge preconceived notions and ignite debates.
- An evolving realm as technology and knowledge progress.
We are well until we aren’t. It’s a pretty firm demarcation between healthy and sick. You go to the Doctor when you are feeling sick, they run tests and when you have diabetes, cancer or some other “illness”, you will then get medical care. But the truth is that there is a huge gray area between healthy and sick. Healthy is actually a very small band and we have a much larger/longer runway till we ever get sick and need medical care from the healthcare system. This area is what I call “health optimization” and where citizen scientists are getting me super excited. This newsletter aims to highlight, curate, provide insights and links to what is happening to this emerging space. Trust me, people are doing extraordinary things that will change your life!! Some of the stuff may challenge what you thought you knew and will definitely create some heated debate – because we are on the cutting edge. The space will evolve as tech and knowledge expands.
Driving Forces
What's pushing this movement?
- AI and technological innovations.
- The aspirations of baby boomers.
- Social media's global outreach.
- Tools like ChatGPT (Large Language Models) that analyze vast amounts of data efficiently.
While everyone is writing emails with ChatGPT, one of the most powerful applications is the analysis and correlation of research, anecdotal data, data and any other information on a related subject. It can take in multiple sources for validation, correlate unrelated areas that intersect and provide invaluable insights that used to take statisticians and researchers years - can now be done with a personal computer and the right prompts. The power of that can not be underestimated. This allows your average person to be able to sift through thousands and even millions of data points in a relatively short period of time with startling accuracy and insights. Innovation in technology that allows sensors to be inexpensive, integrated into our phones, cameras and everyday items that are both non-invasive and non-intrusive at the same time will give real time data that allow us to get to n=1 (meaning you). We have a group of baby boomers that want to live forever and have access to resources to make this happen and fund this new area. And of course, social media which can create awareness across the world in seconds!
Innovations to Look Out For
I see that the convergence of all this is amazing. What am I excited about?
- At home test for consumers that cover everything from biomarkers, STIs, disease states, allergies,
- Women’s Health
- Sensors – that are imbedded into our current tech that are more reliable, measure so much, and are non invasive and non intrusive
- Data from sensors, questionnaires, external inputs the can be translated into understandable and actionable steps
- Rise of neural inputs to assess the early symptoms of Alzheimer, Parkinson, strokes, autism, concussions, depression…and more coming
- Light, Energy, and Vibrational Therapies: A deep dive into the transformative power of these therapies and their applications in enhancing both mental and physical well-being.
Our Mission
Beyond mere positivity, we believe we're on the cusp of something monumental. This newsletter is a canvas for sharing innovations and discussions, aiming to transform lives. I’m often asked why I am so positive, but it’s not positivity, we are on the verge. This newsletter is my personal way of sharing what I’m interested in and the dialogues that encourage you to move beyond your own hesitation. My partners in crime are like minded people who want to be challenged, delighted and excited by the limitless possibilities.
